IDENTITY (2020)
Consider the beauty of each and every thing you lay your eyes on in a single day. The miraculous strength of the ancient trees, or the intricate complexity of a single leaf as it floats down to take its place on the earth. Recall the vast expanse of the starry atmosphere we call space, or the intense detail of each brain cell that allows us to meditate on such beauty.
The Earth is home to 7.7 billion people, each with their own microscopic world inside of their bodies and each drastically different than the next in personality. Why is this? I have been interested in these variations as long as I can remember, and have often found answers in simply sitting in awe of the Creator’s work. It is as if every object of this world points to their love for us and whispers, “You too are art.”
In this series, I connect the nine Enneagram personality types with animals that I feel connect deeply to each type’s motivations and form of beauty. I used the medium of linocut block print to ensure each image is uniquely its own, as each human is. The series is an invitation to bask in the beauty of our diversity of personalities, and to find a type that most connects to the viewer. I aim to show the world not only nature’s unending beauty, but the flourishing beauty inside of each and every one of us as well.
